Federally Funded Research Update

Published February 8, 2025

Dear Faculty,

We write today to keep you informed on the changing federal research landscape. As many of you are already aware, last evening the National Institutes of Health issued Supplemental Guidance for indirect cost recovery rates (IDC). Specifically, the guidance states,

“For any new grant issued, and for all existing grants to IHEs retroactive to the date of issuance of this Supplemental Guidance, award recipients are subject to a 15 percent indirect cost rate. This policy shall be applied to all current grants for go forward expenses from February 10, 2025 forward as well as for all new grants issued.”

According to the NIH Supplemental Guidance, the 15% indirect cost rate will not be applied retroactively. At this time, changes to IDC rates from other federal funding agencies have not been made. If any additional actions from federal funding agencies occur, we will communicate those changes to our faculty.

Together, as we navigate this changing federal landscape, we remain steadfast in our commitment and support to our research mission. Our mission comes to life through our faculty’s research. And, it is evident through the extraordinary impact your work has made, and will continue to make, in communities here and around the world.

Sincerely,

A. Scott Weber
