The Next Web republished an article, co-authored by Siwei Lyu and CSE student Yan Ju for The Conversation, about how deepfake detection improves when using algorithms that are more aware of demographic diversity.

Reuters quoted Siwei Lyu in a fact check article about an AI-generated image showing the president of Mexico wearing a hat that said, “Make America Mexicana Again.” 

Agence France-Presse (AFP) also quoted Siwei Lyu in a story reporting on a fake image depicting first responders climbing on the floating remains of the American Airlines passenger jet that collided with an Army Blackhawk helicopter over Washington, D.C.

The Washington Post highlighted Deepcover, a free app developed in UB’s Center for Information Integrity, co-directed by Siwei Lyu, in an article about a research collective teaching older adults about online safety. 

Reuters quoted Siwei Lyu in a fact-check article about an AI-generated video of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer referring to claims against late sex offender Jimmy Savile as “slightly frivolous.” 

Lead Stories utilized UB’s DeepFake-o-Meter, developed by Siwei Lyu and his team in the Media Forensic Lab, to debunk an image showing Mark Carney, a Canadian economist and politician, in a pool with Jeffrey Epstein. 

Agence France-Presse quoted Siwei Lyu in an article about an AI-generated video of a female Pakistani official giving a hug.
