Graduate Fellows Program

The Asia Research Institute (ARI) Graduate Fellows Program is designed for UB graduate students in any field who are involved in Asia-related coursework, research, or teaching at UB. Graduate fellows become members of the vibrant Asian studies community at UB, benefit from ARI programs, and support ARI’s work.

Graduate fellows have opportunities to:

  1. Interact with visiting speakers, performers, and other guests to discuss research, careers, and other topics of mutual interest
  2. Attend weekly reading and writing sessions at the Asia Research Institute
  3. Nominate speakers for ARI’s AsiaTalks lecture series
  4. Develop and organize Asia Policy Roundtables
  5. Participate and assist with other ARI conferences, performances and special events
  6. Provide input on development of new ARI programs
  7. Help to generate student interest in ARI progams by serving as liaisons to UB departments and student groups
  8. Apply for ARI funding opportunities

As an added benefit, ARI provides meals or refreshments at most events attended by fellows.

Program Expectations

ARI graduate fellows commit to a year-long program, which can be renewed annually as long as they continue their graduate progams and remain active in ARI. They should participate enthusiastically, assist with planning and event logistics as their schedules allow, and generally support the work of the Asia Research Institute.

Fellows will be listed and acknowledged on the ARI website for as long as they remain active in the program.
