Archived Web Content

Some content on university websites may be considered archived—content no longer needed or used to access current university programs, services or activities, but may have historical impact.

What is archived web content?

UB’s Electronic and Information Technology (EIT) Accessibility Policy defines archived web content as content that:

  • is at a minimum five years old;
  • is maintained exclusively for reference, research or recordkeeping;
  • is not altered or updated after the date of archiving; and
  • is organized and stored in a dedicated area or areas clearly identified as being archived.

Does archived content need to be accessible?

Archived content is not required to meet web accessibility standards, but the university is required to provide equally effective alternative access to the content upon request.

What issues can I expect with archived content?

When you encounter archived content, you may experience the following:

  • broken links
  • out-of-date content
  • inaccessible content
