FOCUS, the Festival of Culture Uniting Students is held the night of new student move-in each fall semester.
The event kicks-off with an exciting student-led parade leading into a festival of food, music, and activities. Following new student move-in, this campus tradition celebrates the diverse culture of the incoming class.
Now one of Opening Week’s signature events, FOCUS began in 2022 at Greiner Hall on the North Campus. The event quickly gained popularity, drawing larger crowds and vibrant participation, which prompted its relocation to the South Campus. As a hallmark event organized by Campus Living’s Residential Life, FOCUS creates an unforgettable experience filled with cultural celebration and community spirit. This unofficial kick off to the UB experience continues to grow, embodying the excitement and diversity that makes UB’s campus so special.
A proud campus tradition is launched.
This event includes a unique variety of local food vendors.
While FOCUS originated at Greiner Hall, it has become a staple South Campus event.
The FOCUS identity was re-envisioned in 2024, establishing itself as a signature Opening Week tradition.
Fun fact: in 2024 the parade included more than 80 country flags representing the incoming class.
Kicking off at Hayes Hall and ending at Goodyear Hall, the student-led parade is a quick half mile in length.
