Design of Experiments (DOE)

This asynchronous course educates participants in the Lean Six Sigma method of Design of Experiments (DOE), which identifies factors most important to the success of an improvement project. This analytical approach is explained through the scientific method utilized, impactful experiment designs and the interpretation of controlled tests. Minitabâ„¢ software is used to develop and analyze experiments.

Topics include:

  • Introduction to DOE
  • Key DOE Principles & Full Factorial Designs
  • Fractional Factorial Designs
  • Blocking and Center Points

The course features access to online lectures, conversations about DOE, and perspectives from industry professionals in addition to a physical coursebook for you to keep.  Online quizzes, homework, and a final exercise help assess your knowledge through the course.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of Minitab is not required but recommended

Credential Opportunities

  • Digital badge: Anyone who completes the course and submits a satisfactory written response to TCIE-generated questions earns a digital badge.
  • Continuing Education Units (CEUs): TCIE grants 0.6 CEUs upon full attendance and participation of this course.
  • Professional Development Hours (PDHs): TCIE grants 6 PDHs upon full attendance and participation of this course for a fee of $25.

Course Schedule

This course is offered online on a rolling monthly start basis.

Start at the beginning of any month as long as you paid and enrolled by the 15th day of the preceding month.

Materials and course access will be sent by the first Monday of the next month, if payment is received on time.

Instructor Bio: Peter Baumgartner, CLSSMBB

Peter Baumgartner, a Certified Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt, is UB TCIE’s Operational Excellence Director. As a resident expert in Lean Six Sigma, he has delivered substantial, validated hard savings across a variety of projects in such industries as manufacturing, medical devices, building materials, publishing, finance, IT, food service and automotive. He has nearly 10 years of experience with a global company in serving as the lead on a multitude of process improvement project teams that have delivered record performance in yields, cost reduction, quality and safety. Baumgartner has an advanced understanding and application of statistics, and develops the potential in others through helping them understand Six Sigma and Lean methodologies.
