Good morning, everyone—and welcome!
I am so pleased you could join us for our open house to celebrate the Landing at Ellicott!
With UB’s spring semester about to begin, it is wonderful that we could set aside time to recognize the new centerpiece of the Ellicott Complex! In fact, today’s celebration marks UB’s second such ceremony in less than a week. Just last Wednesday, we celebrated the reopening of the Student Union.
Much like that renovation, our motivation for the Landing at Ellicott is to transform the UB student experience. In keeping with our master plan, every aspect of UB’s physical environment must support our students’ personal development and academic goals.
This major enhancement to the Ellicott Complex exemplifies our commitment to keep our students at the heart of everything we do. We know that having a comfortable, modern and supportive living environment is conducive to our residential students’ UB experience and well-being—which both go hand in hand with their academic success.
By creating an inviting and homey central gathering area, the Landing encourages studying, gathering and camaraderie. In this way, it is fostering a strong sense of community and belonging within UB’s largest residential complex.
I would be remiss if I didn’t also note that the Landing incorporates a key practical advantage in its way-finding. If you have ever considered using breadcrumbs to find your way out of the Ellicott Complex, you know exactly what I’m talking about!
In all seriousness, I would like to acknowledge everyone who contributed to this significant expansion and redesign.
To conclude, let me say how delighted I am to know that our students are enjoying—and benefiting from—the Landing at Ellicott, and that UB students will take advantage of all that it has to offer for generations to come.
Thank you!
