featured Brenda Moore in a story about the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, a group of 855 Black women who became the first and only all-female Black U.S. Army Corps unit to serve overseas during World War II. The group sorted a backlog of approximately 17 million pieces of mail. “The military during that time was racially segregated,” said Moore. “What was really impressive was how they navigated that system and were very determined to outperform to dispel stereotypes.”
