Dear Fellow International Students,
As your International Student Advisory Council, we write to you with care and unwavering support. In light of recent news surrounding immigration enforcement activities across the U.S., we know many of us may feel unsettled, anxious, or even fearful. These moments can feel isolating and confusing, especially when we are far from home and uncertain about what may come next.
But please remember: you are not alone. We are thinking of you, standing with you, and are committed to continuing our support of one another as a community.
We recognize the courage it takes to pursue your education far from home—to navigate unfamiliar systems, face questions about belonging, and do so with resilience and strength. You are part of a vibrant, diverse, and deeply valued international student community here at the university.
While there is no perfect way to respond to these developments, we encourage you to focus on your academic and personal goals while taking care of your well-being. Sometimes, maintaining a steady routine and concentrating on what’s within your control—your schoolwork, rest, and connection with friends—can offer comfort and stability.
We also encourage you to be thoughtful in your choices. Now more than ever, it's important to follow the rules, avoid activities that may put your immigration status at risk, and make decisions that prioritize your safety and long-term success. This doesn’t mean you have to stop living your life, but it does mean moving forward with awareness, mindfulness and self-care.
Be especially cautious about misinformation. Avoid relying on group chats, social media, or rumors. Unless you hear something directly from International Student Services (ISS) or another trusted source, there is no need to panic. The ISS team is here for you. They are working diligently to understand the recent changes and share accurate guidance and resources.
Let’s continue to care for one another. Check in on your friends. Create spaces where everyone feels welcome, heard and safe. And know that—even in moments of uncertainty—you are part of a community that sees, values and stands with you.
In solidarity and friendship,
