The UB Gender Institute supports student research through the Undergraduate Scholarship, the Ph.D. Dissertation Fellowship, the Isabel S. Marcus International Research Fellowship, Travel Awards to the annual Duke Feminist Theory Workshop, and by facilitating the Dissertation Workshop.

Recent UB English PhD graduate Jocelyn E. Marshall's dissertation project won the 2024 First Book Award from the , which provides an advanced publication contract. NWSA announced the news over social media accounts on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. For this project, she was also awarded the 2024-2025 American Association of University Women’s , which was recently added to the UB record of fellowships.

Jocelyn also had two article publications, one edited journal issue, and two exhibition catalogs completed before her dissertation defense:

Gabriela Cordoba Vivas, Isabel S. Marcus Fellowship Recipient and PhD Candidate in Media Studies, was recently published in the Journal of Lesbian Studies. Gabriela writes in the acknowledgements, "I want to thank Rian Ciela Hammond for their generous and generative comments and feedback, the Gender Institute at University at Buffalo for supporting my research and Paige Sarlin and the department of Media Study at the University at Buffalo for guiding and supporting my work." Jocelyn E. Marshall, PhD Candidate,  English Department at UB, in her new co-edited book ,  brings visibility to perpetuated violence and silence through a range of genres, including poetry, syllabi, and critical reflections.

Jocelyn will also be guest editing the Spring 2023 issues of Rejoinder - the issue will be on queer spiritual becoming.
