A digital badge is a new type of credential that allows you to show the specific skills you've gained through learning experiences. It's a clickable icon that can digitally display your work and accomplishments to key audiences, like future employers or graduate schools, when embedded on your digital resume, UB Portfolio or LinkedIn.

This project involved using technology to detect and analyze micro-plastics carriers in drinking water. Alexis focused on the application of photothermal microcantilever deflection spectroscopy (PCDS) to do this. Here is what Alexis had to say about the experience:
What I Did:
"For my project, I focused on the application of photothermal microcantilever deflection spectroscopy (PCDS) to detect and analyze micro-plastics carriers in drinking water. PCDS is a sensitive technique that allows us to identify the presence of PFOA being carried in micro-plastics at a very small scale, helping us understand the extent of plastic pollution in our environment. Through this project, I was able to highlight the importance of recycling and addressing plastic pollution, raising awareness about the potential dangers micro-plastics pose to public health and the environment. One of the accomplishments I am most proud of is my ability to effectively communicate the significance of my findings to diverse audiences, including those outside of my field."
What I Learned:
"This project helped me develop crucial skills in scientific communication, leadership, and advocacy, as I traveled nationally to present my research at conferences. The biggest takeaway from this experience was the power of inclusivity and collaboration. By ensuring that every voice was heard and valued during the project, I was able to foster a stronger, more engaged team. This experience has been instrumental in supporting my professional goals by enhancing my leadership abilities and deepening my commitment to equity and inclusion. I encourage other students to get involved in projects like this because they provide invaluable opportunities for personal growth, skill development, and making a meaningful impact on critical global issues."
